Attewell Tournament 2017

May 8th, 2017

The staging of the 41st Attewell Restricted Tournament 2017 was hosted by the Chilwell Olympian Club on Saturday 29th April. This is a competition which is open to all juniors in Nottinghamshire but excluding those who have recently represented the County in the National Shires League.

The tournament had attracted over 120 entries (boys and girls) including a team of 19 players from MJBC, primarily from the 2 younger age groups. The event included singles for both boys and girls, level doubles and mixed doubles across the four age groups under 11’s, under 13’s, under 15’s and under 17’s which meant that over 300 matches had to be played in the day.

The day was extremely busy, initially with the group preliminary rounds, and then the finals commencing at 4:00pm. The standard of play was high and this was the first occasion that some of our players had taken part in such an event. Everyone really played their hearts out and with great enthusiasm and commitment and in the spirit of fair play.

In what turned out to be a remarkable day for the Club our players were winners in 6 of the 20 finals and were also runners up in another 3. Special mention must go to Tom Bonser (under 13’s) who became a ‘triple winner’.

Well done to all 8 players.

Not everyone can be a winner but we hope that all those who have taken part enjoyed their badminton and have taken positives from the experiences this competition brings.
